Hamburger Steaks with Onion and Mushroom Gravy is a hearty dish featuring seasoned beef patties simmered in a rich onion and mushroom gravy. Perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
1/2 cup finely diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 large egg
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, sliced
8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  • Shape into 4 to 6 oval patties and press a small indentation in the center of each.

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, add butter, sliced onion, and mushrooms. Cook until softened and lightly browned.

  • Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute.

  • Gradually add beef broth while stirring. Bring to a simmer until thickened.

  • Return patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low for 10 to 15 minutes until cooked through.

  • Adjust seasoning and garnish with thyme before serving.
