Chinese Takeout–Style Sesame Chicken is crispy, saucy, and absolutely addictive. With tender bites of fried chicken tossed in a sweet, sticky sesame sauce, it’s a homemade favorite that rivals your favorite restaurant.
For the Chicken:
1½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cubed
2 eggs, beaten
¾ cup cornstarch
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder (optional)
Salt and pepper
Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Sauce:
⅓ cup soy sauce
¼ cup water
3 tbsp brown sugar or honey
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
To Garnish:
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
2 green onions, sliced
Season chicken and coat in egg, then dredge in cornstarch-flour mixture.
Pan-fry in oil over medium-high heat in batches until golden and cooked through.
In a separate pan, sauté garlic and ginger. Add sauce ingredients and simmer until thickened.
Toss fried chicken in sauce until fully coated.
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot.
