This one-pan dish combines shredded chicken, tangy BBQ sauce, creamy ranch, crispy tater tots, and melted cheese for a comforting meal full of bold flavor and satisfying texture.
2½ cups cooked shredded chicken
1 cup barbecue sauce
⅓ cup ranch dressing or 2 tbsp dry ranch seasoning
½ cup sour cream or cream cheese
1 small onion, diced (optional)
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 (28 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
Preheat oven to 400°F.
In an oven-safe skillet, sauté onion and garlic (if using) for 3–4 minutes.
Stir in chicken, BBQ sauce, ranch, and sour cream. Heat until warm.
Add 1 cup shredded cheese; mix until melted and smooth.
Top with frozen tater tots in an even layer.
Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, until tots are crisp and filling is bubbling.
Add remaining ½ cup cheese in final 5 minutes, if desired.
